Waupaca County board approves 2024 budget, sets tax levies

The Waupaca County Board of Supervisors adopted the county’s Year 2024 budget at its Nov. 14 meeting, approving a series of tax levies and directing department heads to operate programs as presented in their proposed line-item budgets. The motion to adopt Resolution No. 24 (2023-2024) passed 25-0 after Supr. Murphy moved and Supr. Miller seconded.
The resolution levied $24,848,393 as the general tax for tax year 2023, $3,825,659 as the debt service tax and $6,922 for veterans’ relief. It also set a $53,000 levy for bridges under Wis. Stat. § 81.38 (excepting the Cities of Clintonville, New London and Waupaca) and a $1,152,916 levy for public libraries under Wis. Stat. § 43.64 (with several city and village exceptions listed in the resolution). The county will also levy the amount required for its share of refunded or rescinded taxes certified under Wis. Stat. § 74.41(5) by Nov. 15, 2023.
The board adopted the budget at the summary level as printed in the proceedings; the resolution directs department heads to operate their programs consistent with their approved line-item budgets. No substantive amendments to the levy amounts were recorded at the meeting.
The adoption was recorded as final business for the budget item; the county clerk attested the resolution.
