Raeford approves $310,000 budget amendment to buy six public-safety vehicles

The Raeford City Council on Feb. 11 approved a $310,000 amendment to the fiscal 2021-22 budget to purchase six public-safety vehicles, the council record shows.
City Manager Dennis Baxley recommended buying one administration truck for the Fire Department, one animal-control truck and four police cars and asked the council to fund the purchases from the General Fund balance. Councilwoman Mary Neil King moved to approve the purchase and Budget Amendment #6; Councilman John Jordan seconded the motion and the council adopted the amendment unanimously.
The budget amendment amends the General Fund by appropriating $265,000 to Motor Vehicles (10-510-5300) and $45,000 to Motor Vehicles (10-530-5300), for a total appropriation change of $310,000. The amendment increases the Fund Balance (10-300-9900) estimate by $310,000 and directs that copies of the amendment be furnished to the city clerk, the budget officer and the finance officer.
The amendment’s explanatory language says the change responds to supply issues: a vendor told the city that stock was available but that the city needed to place an order immediately to reserve the vehicles. The council record does not include additional discussion or alternatives to the purchase; the motion was recorded as carried unanimously.
After adopting the budget amendment, Councilman Charles Allen moved to adjourn; Councilman Wayne Willis seconded the motion and the special meeting was adjourned.
