Summary
The board heard a first-year summary from the Arts Advisory Committee co-chairs, who described short-term goals, subcommittees for music and visual arts, and plans for a central Camas Arts website and calendar to increase community access to district arts events.
Sarah Lightfoot and Fauna Wolf, who said they have been co-chairing the district's newly formed Arts Advisory Committee, presented the committee's purpose and early accomplishments to the school board.
"The creation of the arts advisory committee represents a meaningful and positive step in honoring the arts as an essential component of the high quality education the Camas School District strives to provide for every student," Sarah Lightfoot said, describing the committee's vision and its four subcommittees: music, visual arts, student engagement, and communications and technology.
The co-chairs said the committee collected data from teachers, administrators and students, and identified several "quick wins" including establishing the committee, laying out a purpose and values statement, and planning an all-district arts discovery meeting in April. Committee members also proposed a Camas Arts website and a centralized arts calendar to keep the community informed of district arts programs and events.
Board members praised the committee's early work and said they looked forward to reviewing the committee's written purpose statement and any data collected. The presentation did not include requests for additional funding at this meeting; the committee said it will submit materials and next steps to the board for follow-up.
