Lake Stevens releases annual family survey and schedules first reading of anaphylaxis policy

Executive Director of Communications Jayme Taylor presented results from the district's annual family survey during the Aug. 27 meeting. Taylor said 1,024 families responded; school-level letter-grade-style results included 74% for Lake Stevens High School, 65% for CMHS, middle schools averaging 69%, elementary schools averaging 82.1%, ELC at 93% and HomeLink at 63%, producing a districtwide average of 77.53%.
Taylor said families identified staff and teachers, student well-being, communication and facilities as key themes and that email was the preferred communication channel. Next steps include sharing results with staff and families and reconsidering future survey length and timing.
In other informational items, Gina Anderson presented a first reading of proposed changes to Policy 5462 (Anaphylaxis Prevention and Response); the board will consider action on that policy at its Sept. 10 meeting. Jayme Taylor also presented a revision of the procedure for Policy 1410 (Community Use of District Buildings, Equipment and Grounds), and Assistant Superintendent Teresa Main presented a revision to the procedure for Policy 5560 (Student Fees, Fines and Charges). Both procedures were informational at this meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton gave a welcome-back update, describing the start-of-school kickoff as "a big and joyful moment" and praising staff; Assistant Superintendent Dr. John Balmer also addressed staff during the morning kickoff.
Board members offered closing comments and thanks to presenters; Director Nina Hanson said, "You go, teachers—I'm rooting for you!" The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
