Nooksack Valley board elects new chair, approves several governance policy revisions

The Nooksack Valley School Board voted Thursday to install new leadership and adopt a set of governance policy revisions.
Ty Elmendorf was elected board chair in a roll-call vote, and Halli Kimball was elected vice chair; the board also designated Elmendorf as its legislative representative. The board voted to make newly elected officers effective at the end of the meeting. Superintendent Matt Galley expressed gratitude for outgoing Chair Steve Jones’ four years of service.
The board approved policy revisions covering the annual organizational meeting (Policy 1210), duties of board officers (1220), meeting conduct/order/quorum (1400), proposed agenda and consent agenda (1420), and training and development of board members (1822). The consent agenda motion to adopt those revisions passed unanimously.
Board members emphasized the need to continue building consensus as district work grows more complex. "We need to continue to work together and build consensus," Board Member Ty Elmendorf said as he commented on transitions to new leadership.
The actions conclude the district’s annual reorganization process; the newly elected officers and updated policies take effect per the board’s motion at the end of the meeting.
