Nooksack Valley School Board holds first readings of two new governance policies

At the Oct. 16 meeting, Superintendent Matt Galley presented two proposed board policies for first reading.
Policy 1111, "Oath of Office," would add language confirming that board members will swear an oath to the constitutions of the United States and Washington and to Washington laws. Galley described the policy as non-essential but important and said it will return for a second reading and vote at the November meeting.
Policy 1315, "Roles and Responsibilities of the Board and Superintendent," was presented as a clarification of duties amid a changing governance landscape. Board members offered brief suggestions for additional language and revisions; Galley said he would prepare a new draft for the November agenda.
No votes were taken on the policies at the Oct. 16 meeting; both items were recorded as first readings and will appear on the board’s November agenda for further consideration.
