Nooksack Valley board approves 2025–26 Bilingual Learner Plan

The Nooksack Valley School Board unanimously approved the district's 2025'1026 Bilingual Learner Plan on Nov. 20, 2025.
Superintendent Matt Galley told the board the Multilingual program's goals and metrics directly align with previously approved school improvement plans and that the district's executive team will meet quarterly with each school administration team and the district TOSA to monitor progress. Special Programs Director Kim McGee provided more detailed information on staffing, funding and assessment approaches supporting the plan.
Board discussion included a brief clarification on the difference between the state's Transitional Bilingual Instructional Program funding and federal Migrant program funding, and how those funding streams are reported and used. The motion to approve the plan was made by Director Tanya Silves and seconded by Director Steve Jones; the board recorded a 5-0 vote in favor.
The plan approval authorizes the district to proceed under the stated staffing and assessment framework; staff will report progress at the cadence described in the plan and at future board updates.
