Milan council approves event permits, sets trick-or-treat hours and hears spring 2025 road schedule

The Milan City Council on Oct. 3 approved a consent agenda item granting a permit for a Moving Milan Forward "Cigar and Whiskey" event in the alley between the Owl and Fenders on Oct. 13, 2023, from 5 to 11 p.m., and approved citywide Trick-or-Treating on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both items were part of a consent package that passed unanimously.
City Administrator Jim Lancaster told the council that a road construction project is scheduled to start in spring 2025 with an expected completion in June 2025; he said construction updates will be posted on the City of Milan website. Clerk Lavonna Wenzel announced an informational early voting town hall presented by the League of Women Voters on Oct. 4 at the Riverbank Center and reminded residents of a candidate forum hosted by the Milan Area Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley summarized recent programming, including the conclusion of the "Live from Tolan Square" series and an Oct. 21 prescreening by filmmaker Eric Stanton Betts with proceeds to Milan High School theater.
Also noted in council reports: Councilmember Kofflin mentioned Semcog updates and requested feedback on a regional task force he serves on; Councilmember Baldwin invited the public to a Whiskey and Cigar event at the Owl on Oct. 13; Mayor Ed Kolar thanked the Sons of the American Legion for donations.
The council set its next regular meeting for Oct. 17, 2023, and adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
