Lake Stevens schools highlight student awards, career and wellness programs at board meeting

At the Lake Stevens School District board meeting on April 16, principals and staff highlighted student recognitions, community partnerships and program successes across district schools.
Lake Stevens Middle, North Lake Middle, Cavelero Mid High School and Lake Stevens High School each introduced Students of the Month for March. Assistant Superintendent John Balmer announced APPLE Award recipients and SACo leadership recognized Student Choice Award honorees.
Cavelero Principal Jimmy Sellers and colleagues outlined initiatives including a Positive Social Norms Committee to reinforce positive behavior, a Strengthening Families seven-week series focused on parent–child resilience and communication, and student-led community programs such as the Food Bank Club and Bridging Generations Through Tech. Sellers also described CTE engagement such as robotics and FCCLA and noted music ensembles’ community performances. LSHS Principal Leslie Ivelia listed achievements including 100 new National Honor Society inductees, an award-winning jazz band, and progress targets for Multilingual Learners; she noted specific WIDA growth targets for the ML program.
LSHS student Lucia Mourer described the Legislative Page Program: "I learned so much about how bills are made and how many people are involved. I met amazing people, made new friends, and had a great conversation with my representative about how anyone — not just political experts — can serve. I highly recommend the page program to anyone curious about how Washington is governed." Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton closed the informational portion by saying, "we're all in this together," and announced Unified Track will begin May 1.
What happens next: principals and staff will continue program work and the board will track related outcomes through future building reports and board meeting updates.
