Parents urge Spanish emergent kindergarten; SACo president gives final remarks

Flora ("Flor") Wright introduced herself as Peruvian and said she is thinking ahead to kindergarten for her toddlers; she urged the district to consider offering a Spanish emergent kindergarten program so bilingual families like hers can access early Spanish-language learning opportunities. "My name is Flor - like 'flower' - and I'm Peruvian," she said, adding that being part of a Spanish emergent program would have mattered to her and that she would like to advocate for such a program in the district.
Separately, Student Advisory Council officers received public recognition. SACo Secretary Yostina Mosa highlighted test-taking instruction and its long-term benefits; Vice President Aashisri Bendalam emphasized attendance as crucial for learning. SACo President Riley Boerger said serving on SACo taught her determination and leadership and noted this was her final board meeting, thanking a teacher whose class led to a national essay award.
The board did not take immediate action on the request for a Spanish emergent kindergarten program during this meeting; it was recorded as public comment for future consideration.
