Superintendent outlines supportive-learning work, legislative priorities and bus funding need

Galley said Goal 2 of the district improvement plan focuses on improving supportive learning environments. To support that goal NVSD partnered with Belong Partners to deliver professional development for all K–5 staff and learning teams from the middle and high schools to strengthen adult practices and student skills in problem solving, conflict resolution and peer interactions. He also cited Student Universal Wellness Screener data as evidence of progress toward the goal.
Galley outlined the district’s legislative platform’s “big three”: fully funding special education, reforming the transportation funding formula and closing the gap in MSOC (materials, supplies and operating costs) funding. He said the district submitted a revised proposal to the RCO for a field-turf grant.
On transportation, Galley told the board the district needs a budget extension in the Transportation Vehicle Fund to support the purchase of two buses this year; a bus ordered last year has not been received and the prior appropriation was not expended as planned. The minutes do not record a formal vote authorizing the budget amendment at this meeting; the superintendent outlined the need and next steps for administration and board follow-up.
