Superintendent Matt Galley reported to the Nooksack Valley School Board on Sept. 18 that initial district enrollment figures are about 12 full-time-equivalent students below what the budget anticipated and noted that the official October count historically runs higher.
Galley reviewed SBA results from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and said district scores remain competitive but require additional emphasis on English language arts at all grade levels. He updated the board on the turf-field project: the district has heard presentations from four prospective vendors and Galley has presented the project to the Sunrise Rotary; he is scheduled to present to the Mt. Baker Rotary on Sept. 23.
Board members discussed graduation plans for 2026 in light of stadium construction. The board expressed a preference for holding graduation at the Sumas Rodeo Grounds if it can accommodate the event, with the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden listed as an alternate.
Administrators Megan Vigre and Kim McGee presented the 2025–2026 Elementary School Improvement Plans and described how campus-level strategies align with district goals and the developing Integrated Systems of Support; the board approved the SIPs unanimously during the same meeting.
Next steps for the turf-field procurement and final graduation-site selection were not finalized at the meeting; staff will continue vendor evaluations and venue logistics work.
