City officials update council on Nature Park, playground inspections and downtown crosswalks

City Administrator Jim Lancaster and Mayor Ed Kolar briefed the Milan City Council on the Nature Park project at the Sept. 19 meeting and said they are continuing communications with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) about project progress.
Police Chief Don Tillery answered Mayor Ed Kolar’s questions regarding downtown crosswalks and the possible use of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) to improve pedestrian safety. Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley told the council that annual playground inspections at Nature Park and Wilson Park have been completed and reminded members that the final Third Thursday event is Sept. 21 and that a Week Without Driving wrap-up session is scheduled for Oct. 10.
Tewsley also noted that a website refresh is underway and that the city’s first printed publication will be available soon. City Treasurer Sarah Finch informed the council that the annual audit for fiscal year 2023 will begin shortly. Councilmembers used the reports to highlight upcoming community events, including Milan Fest and a ribbon-cutting for a new Main Street business, Pink Shamrock.
The meeting concluded with reminders about the next regular meeting on Oct. 3, 2023, and an adjournment at 8:34 p.m.
