Republic Services seeks 2.5% sanitation rate increase; council to consider on consent agenda

Company representative Brad Martin described circumstances surrounding the request and noted that several inflationary factors would normally point to a larger increase, but Republic Services was requesting a reduced adjustment for 2026. Staff was authorized to place the rate-adjustment request on the council's next consent agenda for formal consideration.
Staff noted the typical indices used as a basis for rate changes: CPI-U 2.63%, WST (water, sewer, trash) 4.33% and Garbage/Trash 4.56%. No final approval of a rate adjustment occurred at the work session; the council will consider the request on the consent agenda.
