Pennsauken board ratifies hires, stipend roles and Life Skills program community trips

On Sept. 16 the Pennsauken Township Board of Education approved numerous personnel appointments and co-curricular assignments, ratified separations and set start-date contingencies tied to fingerprinting, certification and medical clearance.
The personnel slate included new teachers, educational assistants, custodians, food-service workers and bus aides across district schools with cited salaries and account numbers. The packet also listed stipends for extracurricular roles including an E-Sports head coach and marching band director, and staff assignments for athletic event support and after-school programs. Several positions were funded through Title I and other specified accounts.
The board approved an 18–21 Life Skills Program plan for community-based instruction beginning Sept. 24, 2024, to include weekly trips to Wegmans in Cherry Hill for shopping and to the Pennsauken Food Bank for volunteer sorting; named staff to accompany students for 1:1 support and authorized transportation. The board also approved mentor assignments (Dana Gery to mentor Florentina Crawford for the NJExcel program) and district translators as addendum items at $25/hour.
A public comment during the general period included Matt Sax, PEA president, who thanked the board, Acting Superintendent Caroline Steer and staff for the opening of school and the Back-to-School breakfast.
Most routine personnel and activity items were approved as part of the consent agenda motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Mr. McDevitt; motions carried.
