Pennsauken board opens superintendent search; community survey yields about 360 responses

The Pennsauken Township Board of Education said Sept. 16 that it opened a search for a new superintendent on Sept. 1 and has received 24 applications to date, with board leaders planning formal application review beginning Nov. 1.

Board President Mrs. Young reported the application pool includes 24 responses, of which she said 8 to 11 currently meet the required parameters for the district’s posted qualifications. The board will use about 360 community survey responses to help shape interview questions and community input during the selection process.

The superintendent search committee outlined a timeline and evaluation approach but did not name candidates or schedule public interviews in the meeting materials. The board’s public notice for the Sept. 16 business meeting stated formal action would be taken during the session when necessary.

Acting Superintendent Caroline Steer and board members were present during the committee report. No formal vote on search procedures was recorded beyond the committee report; the board will begin reviewing applications and will bring interview and selection steps back to future meetings for public notice and possible action.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15 at Pennsauken High School, where members may update the community as the search proceeds.
