The Pennsauken Township Board of Education on Jan. 20 approved a broad consent agenda that included multiple personnel appointments, salary adjustments, and the payment of bills totaling $13,343,736.94.
Board President Ms. Eckel opened the meeting and, after returning from an executive session, the board moved through the consent items by a single motion. The motion to approve agenda items 2–55 was made by Mr. McDevitt and seconded by Mr. Carey; the motion carried.
Why it matters: the package included new hires and role changes across the district, payouts for unused sick and vacation time, the first portion of bi‑annual incentive bonuses for several employee groups, and payment applications tied to ongoing construction work. The vote cleared personnel items such as appointed educational assistants and certificated teachers (start dates often contingent on fingerprinting and certification) and approved specified salary-step changes effective Feb. 1, 2026.
Among the finance actions, the board approved payment lists and special checks for December 2025 and January 2026 that together with payroll produced a total of $13,343,736.94 on the January bill list. The agenda also included transfers for December 2025, reconciliation of the Treasurer’s and Secretary’s reports, and the board secretary’s certification that no line-item had been overexpended.
The consent slate included payments and compensation items that district staff described in the agenda: payouts for retirees’ unused leave, stipends for Schedule C spring athletics, Title I teacher appointments funded from Title I accounts, pre‑professional field placements at local universities at no cost to the district, and compensation for staff covering extra duties (for example, a PHS teacher to be paid $3,000 per semester for a fourth teaching block).
What the board recorded: motions on routine approvals were routinely presented as part of the consent agenda; specific motions called out in the record include the motion to approve the December 16, 2025 minutes (moved by Mr. McDevitt, seconded by Mrs. Matos) and the final consent motion to approve agenda items 2–55 (moved by Mr. McDevitt, seconded by Mr. Carey). The addendum items 1–6 (including personnel additions and a payment application for a Pre‑K addition) were approved later in the meeting by the same mover/second pattern.
What’s next: many of the personnel actions are contingent on completion of fingerprint criminal history review, required physicals and certification; the board’s next regular business meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.
