Stillwater Medical CEO Courtney updated the Perry City Council on the hospital's ongoing renovation, saying Phase 1 has been completed and the emergency room has been operating temporarily out of that space since early December. "Phase 1 renovated the old surgery wing, and it will be where we house our observation patients once we're fully open," Courtney said.
Courtney described Phase 2 as a complete renovation of the ER: "Steel is hung in there. They're running the piping for the new med gases and all that in there," she said, adding that new overhead lighting and a relocated dietary area are part of the work. Staff said the state inspected and approved the first section of a two‑hour fire‑rated wall, clearing the way for drywall and continuing interior work.
On timing, Courtney gave a near‑term target: "Time frame right now, they're looking at late May, maybe mid June ish to be completed completely." She emphasized that operations are being staged so that ER and outpatient services remain open throughout construction.
The council asked practical questions about patient access during construction; Courtney said ambulances currently use a bay entrance and that, when renovations are finished, a single main entrance by the ambulance bay will be used. She invited council members to tour the site.
The presentation concluded with the council thanking Courtney and noting continued interest in the facility's progress; no formal action was taken.
