City public-safety leaders updated the Montevallo City Council on monthly activity and the council issued a formal commendation to officers involved in a January school incident.
Police Chief Todd Burr told the council the department filed 104 reports for February and 197 reports year-to-date; details and a category breakdown appear in Appendix 1. Fire Chief Brad Davis reported 126 calls in February and 263 total calls year-to-date; Appendix 2 lists incident types including medical responses, fire alarms and structure/fire events.
Chief Burr recognized Captain Harrelson, Sergeant Pendergrass, Officer Sims and Officer Holloway for their handling of a January 28 incident at Montevallo High School involving an 18-year-old student. The written commendation in the appendix describes officers initially allowing family de-escalation efforts before entering to secure the student; the student was transported to Grandview Medical Center for evaluation.
Council and several citizens commended the officers during the meeting. The police statistics and fire incident logs are appended to the meeting minutes for public review.
