Raeford council lifts local curfew, discusses park reopenings and advisory committee

By common consent on June 8, the Raeford City Council rescinded the local State of Emergency declaration and lifted the 8 p.m.–6 a.m. curfew for residents within the city limits, effective at 8:52 a.m. the same day. The recommendation to lift the curfew was made by City Manager Dennis Baxley and supported by Chief Marc Godwin.
Councilman Wayne Willis asked about reopening city parks; Manager Baxley said park reopenings would follow Phase 3 of the Governor's executive order and proposed creating a park advisory committee to guide future improvements. Councilwoman Mary Neil King was asked to gather information on costs and types of statutes for park placement.
The council praised Chief Marc Godwin and the Raeford Police Department for their professionalism in handling memorial services for George Floyd, a Hoke County native, over the previous weekend.
The council called and entered executive session under G.S. 143-318.11(a)(3) and (5) to discuss attorney/client privileged matters and the purchase of land; after the closed session the council returned to open session and recorded that no action resulted. The meeting then adjourned by unanimous motion.
