Raeford council donates surplus fire gear to Hoke County Schools' firefighter academy

On March 20, 2020, the Raeford City Council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2020-03 to donate surplus Raeford Fire Department equipment to Hoke County Schools for use in its firefighter academy.
City Manager Dennis Baxley told the council the items to be donated are 90 SCBA air bottles, 28 Survivair SCBAs, eight Kenwood radios and three exhaust fans and that the equipment will be donated “as is,” without warranty or representation of condition. The resolution cites North Carolina G.S. 160A-274 as the authority allowing the City to transfer personal property to another governmental unit.
Councilwoman Mary Neil King moved to approve Resolution No. 2020-03; Councilman John Jordan seconded. The motion was unanimously carried. The resolution text adopted by the council states the City will donate the listed items to Hoke County Schools for use by its firefighter academy. Mayor John K. McNeill, III signed the resolution, and Betty Smith, city clerk, attested the adoption.
The resolution and the minutes record the transfer as a donation for educational and training purposes. No additional terms, financial consideration or warranty were recorded in the meeting minutes. The resolution was adopted March 20, 2020.
