District leaders outline math strategies, attendance goals and bilingual mentoring programs

Lake Stevens Middle School Principal Lisa Sanchez said the school is focusing on continuous academic growth through strong relationships and high-quality instruction and outlined approaches to improve math performance and attendance. Associate Principal Jamie Sinning described "Pirate Math," a framework emphasizing assessment, purpose, motivation, interim assessment benchmarks and targeted word-problem work to drive gains in student math outcomes. Attendance OP Lisa Hale reviewed attendance goals for LSMS.
Stevens Creek Elementary Principal Matt Pewitt described two school goals: moving from knowing students to valuing them, and creating a sense of belonging that honors each individual; Dean of Students Marie Chudnofsky shared a photo highlighting staff participation in the Stevens Creek Club Crew.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton noted approximately 250 district DECA students and described a LaChispa bilingual mentoring event at Cavelero Mid High where 60 Lake Stevens High School mentors engaged with younger bilingual students about biliteracy and bicultural pride.
No actions were taken; the presentations were informational and intended to inform board oversight and future planning.
