Student Advisory Council rolls out Student Choice Awards; superintendent debuts 'Love Lake Stevens' campaign

Student representatives told the board on Jan. 29 that they are launching Student Choice Awards to let students nominate staff members for recognition tied to the district’s Foundation for Excellence and strategic plan.
SACo Vice President Aashisri Bendalam described the plan to involve primary and secondary students in nominations and said the effort aims to amplify student voice districtwide. Bendalam told the board she feels “safe, happy, and a true sense of belonging” in the district, a comment board members cited when praising the council’s work.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton presented a short video for the district’s new annual February “Love Lake Stevens” campaign and credited Executive Director of Communications Jayme Taylor. Templeton noted local business and community support, saying Grocery Outlet and the Rotary Club were among the first to request campaign signs. She also praised culinary students who created themed cookies for the event.
Board members commended SACo and encouraged community engagement; Director Vildan Kirby reminded residents to vote and return ballots by Feb. 11. The Student Choice Awards project will proceed with student nomination logistics to be worked out through SACo and the communications office.
