Milan City Council approves parklets, special-event permits and youth-league agreement; pays $158,114 in bills

The Milan City Council on April 4 approved several consent-agenda items and motions covering special-event permits, downtown parklets and a youth sports agreement. By unanimous votes, the council:

- Approved a special-event permit for the 2023 Milan Relay for Life kickoff with S’Mac & Cheese food truck at the Owl on April 13 from 6 to 8 p.m., - Approved TCO 2023-2-T to allow parklets in the downtown business district for 2023, which Main Street Director Jill Tewsley said has had positive economic impacts, and - Approved the Knights of Columbus Howard Heath Council Tootsie Roll Drive on April 7–8, 2023.

Council also approved the 2023 agreement between the Milan Youth League and the City of Milan (motion by Councilperson Baldwin; second by Councilperson Nie) and authorized payment of bills and payroll totaling $158,114.00 (motion by Councilmember Thompson; second by Councilmember Nie). All motions carried unanimously.

City Clerk Lavonna Wenzel announced candidate packets for the City Council and Library Board are available; the deadline to return nominating petitions is April 25, 2023 at 4 p.m. City Administrator Jim Lancaster said the Center will begin installation of a first phase of new windows on May 1. Parks and Recreation Director Ellen Bell previewed upcoming community events including a Bridal Show on April 16 and a mother-and-son ‘Spring Fling’ dance on April 21. Mayor Ed Kolar announced Milan Cares scheduled a Spring Cleanup for April 16 from noon to 2 p.m.

The council adjourned at 7:43 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
