Milan City Council approves code enforcement changes, rezoning and licensing agreement

The Milan City Council on Feb. 7 approved two ordinance amendments to expand the city’s code enforcement authority and to explicitly include rental housing inspectors among authorized officials.
The council approved the second reading of Ordinance 2023-03, which amends Chapter 1, Section 1-11 of the Milan City Code to broaden enforcement authority to include additional personnel. Councilmember Baldwin moved the measure and Councilmember Nie seconded; the roll call vote was recorded as seven ayes and zero nays.
Council also approved the second reading of Ordinance 2023-04, which amends Chapter 13¼ (Municipal Civil Infractions) to expand the definition of “authorized city official and authorized local official” to include rental housing inspectors. Other formal actions taken by the council included approval of the Planning Commission’s recommendation to rezone 55 Dexter Street from R-2 (Two-Family Residential) to GB (General Business).
