Pennsauken board accepts superintendent resignation, approves acting superintendent and holds consulting contract

Board members placed items related to the superintendent on the agenda for discussion and, after an executive session that evening, approved agenda item #3 (accepting the resignation) and agenda item #4 (submitting the proposed contract for Caroline Steer as Acting Superintendent to the Camden County Office of Education for the required review). The Board held agenda item #5, a proposed educational consulting contract with Tarchichi Consulting Services, LLC, for further consideration and ultimately tabled it after executive session.
During the public-comment period, several residents praised Dr. Tarchichi’s work and urged the Board to maintain the district’s “upward momentum.” Speakers who addressed the board during the agenda-only comment period included Amy Schmellbach, Audeliz Ruiz, Elizabeth LaVine, Bernadette Coco, Daxten Canales, Lisa Eckel, Jermaine Brown, John Falkiewicz and Darika Mieles; many thanked the superintendent and asked the board to preserve current progress. The board president, Mrs. Young, responded publicly that the district would build on Dr. Tarchichi’s vision.
The Board treated the resignation and related personnel items as part of a personnel-focused executive session called under N.J.S.A. 10:4-12; the public portion resumed later the same night and the Board announced specific approvals taken after closed session. The meeting minutes show the Board moved and carried the necessary motions to record its decisions and to table the consulting contract.
Next steps: the acting-superintendent contract must be submitted to and approved by the Camden County Office of Education as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-3.1 before a final board vote can be recorded; the consulting contract with Dr. Tarchichi remains tabled pending further Board action.
