The Pennsauken Township Board of Education on April 15, 2025 voted to approve an employment contract for Dr. James Bevere to serve as superintendent of Pennsauken Public Schools from June 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028 and to ratify an employment contract for John Ogunkanmi as Business Administrator for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Both contracts were presented to the board as having been reviewed and approved on March 27, 2025 by the Interim Executive County Superintendent of Camden County under N.J.S.A. 18A:7-8(j) to confirm compliance with commissioner standards.
The personnel portion of the agenda included multiple hires and appointments across operations and instructional staff. The packet listed appointments for food service workers, bus drivers, a series of teachers, custodial hires and stipends for spring athletics and intramural positions. Several hires were noted as contingent upon fingerprint criminal history review, certification, PPD and a physical examination. The board also presented and approved leave requests, retirements and resignations and ratified sell-back of vacation days for two employees as detailed in the meeting materials.
Board members processed the personnel slate as part of a consolidated motion to approve agenda items 2–39. The motion to approve those items was made by Mr. McDevitt and seconded by Mr. Alves and was recorded as carried. Separately, the board approved a separation agreement for employee ID#3159, effective June 30, 2025; the public minutes record the board’s action but do not include financial or other terms of that agreement.
The board also approved several training and program staffing items, including staff to work homework help, summer curriculum development and American Heart Association CPR/AED certification reimbursements for staff required to meet Janet’s Law requirements. Student representatives reported on recent theater productions and the district’s planning for a Juneteenth celebration.
The board adjourned after announcing the next business meeting for May 13, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at Pennsauken High School.
