Commissioners approve insurance renewals, opioid settlement signature, voting-site move and personnel hires

In a series of unanimous votes, the board approved health/vision/dental renewals with no price increase, authorized signing an opioid settlement with Purdue Pharma, approved relocation of early voting to the government center, ratified an insurance questionnaire signature, and hired Wade Bowman as weights and measures inspector effective Sept. 16.
At their Sept. 15 meeting, the Harrison County Board of Commissioners approved a package of administrative and personnel actions by unanimous votes.
Commissioners approved the regular claims and the payroll and prepaid vouchers. The board authorized Commissioner Nelson Stepro to sign the county’s health, vision and dental insurance policy renewals after noting there was no price increase and no significant changes to coverage or plan structure.
Commissioner Brad Wiseman moved to allow Commissioner Stepro to sign an opioid settlement agreement with Purdue Pharma; the board approved the delegation unanimously. The board also authorized Stepro to sign the health department’s annual preparedness grant application outside the meeting, pending review by County Attorney Chris Byrd.
The commissioners approved relocating early voting from the downtown courthouse to a first-floor conference room at the Harrison County Government Center to better accommodate voters. They also ratified Stepro’s signature on a time-sensitive abuse-and-molestation questionnaire from the county’s insurance carrier to prevent a lapse in coverage.
On personnel matters, the board approved a leave without pay request from a highway department brush crew member and unanimously voted to hire Wade Bowman as weights and measures inspector with an effective date of Sept. 16, 2025.
County Auditor Sara Burdick recommended that the auditor’s office provide Affordable Care Act documents to employees upon request rather than outsourcing printing; the board approved that approach. Commissioner Wiseman moved to approve the Sept. 2, 2025 meeting minutes as corrected, and the board approved the minutes.
Commissioner Wiseman moved to adjourn at 7:34 p.m.; the motion carried 3–0.
