The Milan City Council’s Oct. 24 meeting included routine staff reports and community announcements alongside formal approvals.
City Administrator Jim Lancaster told the council that a grant-application process is underway with anticipated answers at the beginning of the year and that the city is converting software from BS&A.net to CS&A Cloud. City Clerk Lavonna Wenzel reminded voters that Election Day is Nov. 8, with polling open 7 a.m.–8 p.m. at 45 Neckel Court and that she will be available Nov. 5 for absentee voters and registration. City Treasurer Sarah Finch provided leaf pick-up dates and rules.
Parks and Recreation Director Ellen Bell promoted the upcoming “Pumpkin Launch” and asked for volunteers. The minutes record that Carrie Ritchie, speaking on behalf of the Milan Area Chamber, reminded the council about Downtown Trick-or-Treat scheduled for the coming Friday. Councilmember Kofflin shared that Milan Recycle Days have yielded 22 tons of recycled material year-to-date and offered congratulatory remarks to local organizations.
Mayor Ed Kolar and several councilmembers, including Pro-Tem Kerkes and Councilmember Nie, offered condolences to the family of Phill Heath, whom the mayor described as an important community figure. The minutes note broad appreciation for active council participation in recent community clean-up efforts.
The council approved a special-event request from the Milan Area Chamber for a Christmas parade on Dec. 3 (4–7 p.m.) as a consent item. The council adjourned at 8:19 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2022, with agenda submissions due Nov. 9.
