During the March 2 meeting the Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees held a special recognitions portion to honor district staff and students.
A district presenter congratulated North Shore Senior High principal Kenneth Bridal for being named the Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators Principal of the Year and invited Dr. Eckford and district leaders to join him on stage. The board also recognized North Shore band students Gabrielle Marquez, Diego Palacios and Justin Sandoval for earning spots in the 2026 Texas Music Educators Association All-State ensembles. The presenter called All-State selection "one of the highest honors available to Texas music students" and asked the students and band staff to come forward.
The district then recognized Galena Park High senior Alma Villegas for her artwork "Saddled Up and Ready to Ride," which was selected for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo school art auction; staff reported she was honored at the School Art Awards on Feb. 15, 2026, and that her artwork will be sold at the art auction on March 15, 2026.
Elizabeth Nava, principal of Galena Park Middle School, introduced an academic spotlight video showcasing the middle school's band program, alumni, staff and community involvement; several students and staff offered short reflections on how band supports student growth. Nava thanked communications staff Edwin Rose and Jose Carranza for supporting the video.
The recognitions were ceremonial; trustees offered brief congratulatory remarks and the meeting proceeded to the business portion without public debate on the recognition items.
