Pendleton County High School coach asks board for paid assistant and volunteer to sustain growing cheer program

During presentations at the meeting a coach for Pendleton County High School’s cheer program asked the board to approve funding for a paid assistant coach and a volunteer assistant.
The coach described recent competitive milestones — PVC champions, regional champions and a fourth-place state finish — and said the team had 12 athletes on the competition squad this year with no seniors, creating continuity into the next season. She explained competition rosters are limited to 13 athletes plus two alternates, meaning larger tryouts leave athletes without organized cheer involvement for months. "So I'm asking for a paid assistant cheer coach, and also a volunteer assistant cheer coach," the coach said, adding that a JV coach or assistant would allow sideline opportunities and structured practices for students not chosen for competition.
Board members acknowledged the request and discussed how to place the item on the February 4 agenda for budget and staffing discussion. A board member asked about salary estimates; the coach said she did not have a figure and the superintendent indicated the board would discuss the staffing and budget implications at the Feb. 4 meeting.
