Murray County renews racing-association lease, declares highway equipment surplus and appoints parks committee member

The Murray County Board on March 17 approved a two-year renewal of the racing association lease covering the 2026–2027 racing seasons. The agenda noted the county’s only expected expenses are electrical costs for the grandstand and concession stand, and that ticket and per-race receipts roughly offset those costs. Commissioner Mark Carlson moved the lease renewal and the motion passed 5–0.
On fleet management, the board declared five highway department items surplus and authorized sale at public auction: Unit 51 (2012 International 7600 plow truck, VIN 1HTGRSJTXDJ174461); Unit 17 (2010 Ford F250, VIN 1FTSW2B56AEA40003); Unit 41 (2012 Chevrolet 2500, VIN 1GC2KVCG6D2132660); Unit 81 (1998 John Deere 6410 tractor, VIN L064101218875); and a front-mounted ripper attachment for a John Deere motor grader. Commissioner Welgraven moved the surplus declaration and sale authorization; the motion passed on a 5–0 roll-call vote.
The board also filled a vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee by appointing Jeff Cheskie to the District 3 seat, for a term ending January 2029. The appointment passed unanimously.
County staff and commissioners described the racing lease and surplus actions as routine administration to support county facilities and fleet replacement planning. The motions were approved by roll call with all five commissioners voting Aye.
