Murray County approves watercraft inspection contract, liquor-license renewals and animal pound agreement

The Murray County Board on March 17 authorized a watercraft inspection and boater-education contract with Waterfront Restoration for inspections at Murray County public boat launches (including Lake Shetek and Lake Sarah), approving the contract for an amount not to exceed $35,000 from Account #01-629-6260. Commissioner Roger Zins moved the contract authorization and Commissioner Dennis Welgraven seconded; the motion passed on a 5–0 roll-call vote.
The board also approved renewals of county Liquor “On Sale” and 3.2 malt-liquor licenses for 2026 (Rolling Hills Golf Club, Chandler Cooperative d/b/a Cenex Convenience Store, and Staples Oil Company), contingent on receipt of required paperwork in the Auditor-Treasurer’s office. Those license approvals passed 5–0.
On intergovernmental services, the board approved the cooperative 2026–2028 Animal Pound Agreement among the City of Slayton, City of Fulda, Murray County and Steven Erickson, authorizing continued use of the pound facility on Broadway Avenue in Slayton; Commissioner Mark Carlson moved the agreement and Commissioner Welgraven seconded, and the vote was 5–0. The board noted the agreement carried over terms from the previously approved 2023–2024 agreement with no substantive changes.
Board members characterized these items as routine service and regulatory approvals needed to maintain public services and compliance. The motions were approved on roll-call votes with all commissioners recorded as Aye.
