Murray County adopts deficient-bridges resolution and authorizes MnDOT agency agreement to advance overlays

The Murray County Board of Commissioners on March 17 adopted Resolution No. 2026-03-17-01 naming multiple county and township bridges as high priorities for replacement, rehabilitation or removal and seeking authorization to pursue state and federal funding. Commissioner Loy Woelber presented the resolution and the board voted 5–0 to adopt it.
The resolution lists a set of projects with estimated total costs and proposed state/local funding splits for work anticipated between 2027 and 2030. Examples in the resolution include bridge replacements and associated cost estimates such as: L1555 (CSAH 33) — estimated total $500,000 with $400,000 state aid and $100,000 local funds (requested 2027); 51508 (CSAH 3) — estimated $1,275,000 with $1,050,000 state funds and $225,000 local funds (requested 2030). The resolution requests authorization to pursue eligible engineering and approach-grading costs for township bridges as allowed by law.
Closely tied to the county’s overlay and road program, the board also adopted Resolution No. 2026-03-17-02 authorizing the Commissioner of Transportation to act as Murray County’s agent to accept federal-aid funds under Minnesota Statute §161.36 and to execute the State of Minnesota Agreement for Federal Participation in Advance Construction (MnDOT Contract No. 1062555). That agreement advances federal-aid and state-aid overlay projects (CSAH 2, 16, 30 and 34) to be constructed this season and is recorded in FHWA records as Minnesota Project STBG 5126(216). The motion to adopt the MnDOT agreement carried 5–0.
The board set bid-opening dates for related overlay projects (SP 051-602-021, SP 051-634-016, SAP 051-616-008 and SAP 051-630-024) for 9:00 a.m. on April 16, 2026, with subsequent April 16 start times scheduled for a seal-coat/fog-seal package and a striping contract. Commissioners said bid results will be presented to the board at its April 21 meeting.
Board members stressed that adopting the deficient-bridges list and authorizing the MnDOT agreement are administrative steps that enable the county to pursue state and federal funding and to bundle construction for efficiency; no construction contract awards were made at the March 17 meeting. The resolutions passed on roll call votes with all five commissioners voting Aye.
