The councilmember said the fire-district residential fee roughly doubled and commercial rates increased markedly, noting commercial fees moved from about $0.54 per square foot to about $1.58 per square foot. She said she did not have the precise residential-dollar figures at hand at the council meeting and described the change as substantial.
She said the district adopted the higher fees to help fund new fire stations; the district recently awarded a design contract and plans to build multiple stations, including one on Sand Hollow Road. The councilmember urged awareness of the change for developers and residents in the district.
Council members discussed insurance implications and noted that once stations are added residents near those stations can be eligible for different rating or insurance considerations.
