Pendleton County adopts FY2022 property tax levy, declines Families First extension and adds COVID sick leave

The Pendleton County Commission unanimously adopted property tax levy rates for fiscal year 2022 and declined to participate in the Families First extension under the American Rescue Plan, instead adding up to 10 days of COVID-related paid sick leave while the State of Emergency continues.
The Pendleton County Commission on April 20 adopted the county’s property tax levy rates for fiscal year 2022 and set related revenue projections.
On a motion by Commissioner Carole Hartman, approved unanimously, the commission laid the following levy rates per $100 of assessed valuation: Class II — 28.60; Class III — 57.20; Class IV — 57.20. The resolution recorded total projected property tax revenue of $2,508,305, with deductions for uncollectable taxes, tax discounts, and the assessor valuation fund that yielded a net amount to be raised by the levy of $2,288,527.
The levies are intended to fund county operations for the coming fiscal year; the commission voted without recorded opposition. The action followed presentation of the county’s projected revenue, deductions and net levy requirement during the meeting.
The commission also considered whether to opt into an extension of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act provided under the American Rescue Plan Act, a voluntary option for employers with fewer than 50 employees. On a motion by Hartman (unanimous), the commission declined to participate in the federal extension. The commission did, however, adopt a local policy amendment adding up to 10 additional paid sick days for a single COVID-related event while the county’s State of Emergency remains in effect.
The decisions were made during the commission’s regular meeting at the courthouse. The board adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for May 4, 2021.
