Council approves $10.7 million contract for new Fire Station No. 6

Carrollton’s City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 3 to authorize the city manager to approve a construction contract with Steele and Freeman for Fire Station No. 6 in an amount not to exceed $10,722,050.
Councilmember Klein, who moved approval, said the new station is urgently needed to meet modern standards for first responders but expressed disappointment that the exterior design had limited community input and questioned a staff claim that a metal exterior would be less expensive. Klein said her information suggested otherwise and asked staff to consider design choices for future stations.
City staff said construction is expected to begin in the coming months and run about 12–14 months. The motion was seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Axberg and passed unanimously.
No amendments to the contract were recorded in the meeting and staff said they would provide typical construction updates as the project advances.
