Council voted to approve an ordinance to amend zoning and grant a special‑use permit for Romco Auto Sales to display and sell larger construction vehicles on an approximately 8.79‑acre light‑industrial lot at 1519 West Beltline Road (Case PLSUP2025‑163).
Lauren Shapiro of Development Services told council the applicant has been at the location since 2017 and proposed three display areas (two front display zones and a larger fenced area in back) for volumetric concrete mixing units and similar heavy vehicles; staff recommended approval because the surrounding properties are industrial or warehouse uses.
Council asked whether the storage area would add paving or extend into green space; Shapiro confirmed the secured storage area is largely compacted (not fully paved) and is fenced with ornamental metal, and staff indicated it would not require additional paving beyond the existing footprint. After brief discussion, Councilmember Carpenter moved to approve and Mayor Pro Tem Axberg seconded the motion. The motion passed with Councilmember Klein recorded in opposition.
Next steps: Staff will finalize ordinance language and update the official zoning map consistent with the council vote.
