Jones County commissioners approve burn ban, accept SB 22 compliance reports and carry out routine financial actions

Jones County Commissioners on March 9 approved a countywide burn ban with agricultural exemptions and completed several routine administrative and financial actions, the court minutes show.
The court implemented the burn ban by a motion from Commissioner Roy Spalding, seconded by Commissioner Danny Collett; the minutes record commissioners voting aye. The ban includes agricultural exemptions for brush piles and coastal waterways (Exhibit C).
Commissioner Lonnie Vivian moved and Commissioner Roy Spalding seconded approval of SB 22 2025 compliance reports for the Constable, County Attorney, District Attorney and law enforcement; the court accepted those reports (Exhibit B). The court also approved the Treasurer's report, amended the budget and approved line-item transfers, and authorized payment of bills as presented by the auditor. Those financial motions were made and seconded by Commissioners as reflected in the minutes and were recorded as approved by the court.
Separately, Commissioner Joel Spraberry moved to rescind two bids (R17356 and R17357) submitted by Raveendranath Chouttapalli that had been approved at the February 9 meeting; Commissioner Roy Spalding seconded and the motion carried. The court also voted to advertise the sale of surplus county property after a motion from Commissioner Lonnie Vivian, seconded by Commissioner Spalding (See Exhibit A).
On a separate motion, the court conditionally approved a proposal by Engie to improve County Road 125 to a six-inch road base with a 22-foot width, subject to a written agreement to be provided by Engie and subsequent approval of that agreement. The motion included a requirement of no pass-through traffic on County Road 126 between US Highway 83 and FM 1835; Commissioner Spalding moved the measure and Commissioner Vivian seconded it.
The court also voted to publish notice for a public hearing to consider restricting pass-through traffic on several county roads (213, 223, 214, 206, 250, 126, 136, 97 and 145 south of County Road 132) following a motion by Commissioner Vivian and second by Commissioner Spalding (See Exhibit D).
No votes or comment in the minutes indicate dissent; the minutes record commissioners voting aye on the motions listed above. The meeting minutes list the actions taken, reference associated exhibits, and record that several other procurement and project items were discussed but not acted on.
The court adjourned after a motion by Commissioner Vivian and second by Commissioner Spalding.
