Wynne High Principal Mr. Meek highlighted Wynne students who participated in Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Aspirnaut research-based STEM program during the Aug. 18 school board meeting. The transcript names three students and summarizes their research: Michael Cantrell worked on purified proteins to improve imaging of collagen in tissue development; Russel Paulino studied newly discovered collagen genes in kidney-like structures; and Parker Nichols developed standard lab procedures to improve experiment accuracy and repeatability. Mr. Meek presented these items as part of a high-school data report to the board.
Separately, the board handled routine business and personnel items. A motion by Mr. Spencer Parker, seconded by Mrs. Teresa Dallas, approved the superintendent's consent agenda items unanimously. The board unanimously approved a request to permit ACH transactions after a motion by Mr. Michael Hirons and a second from Mr. Spencer Parker. The board also approved recommended employment, transfers and resignations presented by the superintendent; that motion was made by Mr. Michael Hirons, seconded by Mrs. Leanne Lovell and passed unanimously.
Personnel items approved included classified hires (Stephanie Luker, Janada Hartley) and a grant-position hire (Malik Chavis as an EACC grant partnership career coach, retroactive to Aug. 6, 2025). Licensed assignments included Megan Hooker as a mentor teacher. The transcript notes multiple resignations with effective dates supplied (for example, Lydia P. Goodwin, Bracie Bratton Creel, and others). The transcript also records that the recommended classified hires are contingent on receipt of nationwide criminal records and Child Maltreatment Central Registry checks as required by state law; employment becomes effective on receipt of clear results.
Administrators also reported operational metrics: Open House attendance was reported as "over 400" and first-day student attendance listed as 488 of 512. Mrs. Schunda Murphy, Special Services Director, provided a departmental update to the board; the transcript records the update but does not provide further detail in the meeting text.
The board set its next regular meeting for Sept. 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., and adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
