The council approved a memorandum of understanding with Story County on Feb. 24 to advance a concept and feasibility study for a potential roundabout at GW Carver and Cameron School Road in northwest Ames.
Damien, a public works staffer, described the step as a feasibility and concept phase, not a commitment to construct. "This step is really just to let us know what are the right of way impacts and other important details so that we could work towards an actual project," Damien said.
Council voted to approve the MOU by roll call. Councilor (speaker 15) then moved and council approved directing $50,000 from unobligated ARPA funds to support the city's share of preliminary engineering and grant-application work for the project.
Next steps: staff will solicit a consultant to advance right-of-way analysis and a safety grant application, aim to have feasibility details in time for CIP development in the fall, and return with any funding or construction proposals.
