The second award is a $22,848.28 grant that requires a 50% local match. EMS Chief Cody Davis told the Board the county would need to provide the matching share from the county’s ending‑year balance or General Fund; county staff said the ending balance is sufficient and the Board unanimously approved appropriating the state award and committing the required local match. Davis said the purchases include one LUCAS mechanical CPR compression device (approximately $8,340) and one replacement stretcher (approximately $15,000). He said much of the county’s equipment came from volunteer squads and is now end‑of‑life, and that purchases of this kind are infrequent capital needs.
Board members discussed the fiscal tradeoffs of using the ending‑year balance for the match but agreed upgrading EMS equipment is a priority. Supervisor Dennis H. Davis and others praised crews’ recent snow‑removal and emergency response efforts.
What happens next: Staff will appropriate the funds and proceed with procurement consistent with county purchasing rules; the grant requires the county match to be provided as recorded at the Feb. 9 meeting.
