At a March 9 regular meeting, the Caribou County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution No. 2026-03 supporting a $525,000 Community Project Funding request to install a 700 MHz P25 trunking repeater system at the Black Mountain site to improve county radio coverage.
Eric Hobson, public safety director, told the Board the application is being filed under the sheriff’s office and described the project as intended to strengthen emergency communications. Hobson said the request is for "$525,000 to install a 700 MHz P25 trunking repeater system to the Black Mountain Site." Commissioner Bryce Somsen moved to adopt Resolution No. 2026-03 and Commissioner Mark Mathews seconded; the motion passed.
Hobson also requested Board endorsement letters for two EMS purchases tied to grant applications: a Stryker Gurney Power Load Kit priced at $69,996.44 (the grant would cover up to $40,000) and a Chevy Braun North Star ambulance priced at $281,052.00 (the grant would cover up to $240,000). He described an Idaho Office of Emergency Management grant-adjustment notice that extends project dates but does not change award amounts; the Board agreed to provide requested signatures and letters of support.
Hobson noted the Event Center lacked an automated external defibrillator and said staff had identified a refurbished unit at about $800 and new units in the $1,500–$2,500 range; he said he would proceed with ordering.
The Board’s adoption of the resolution formalizes local endorsement for the congressional funding application. Next steps described at the meeting include completing application materials under the sheriff’s office, signing the grant-adjustment paperwork and submitting the endorsement letters.
