Library of Virginia Foundation reports strong fundraising; board to confer Patron of Letters on composer Damien Geter

Pia Trigiani, president of the Library of Virginia Foundation Board, and Executive Director Scott Dodson reported to the Library Board on Sept. 15 that the Foundation raised over $630,000 this year, has investments exceeding $8 million, and has reached 44% of its five‑year capital campaign goal. Dodson noted key fundraising activities, including a sold‑out Literary Awards Gala and a $16,000 silent auction; the Foundation also presented the Mary Lynn Kotz Award for Literature to Deborah Parker.
Chair Malfourd "Bo" Trumbo reported that the Executive Committee voted to award composer Damien Geter an honorary Patron of Letters degree in recognition of his contributions to Virginia’s cultural life, including his work on the opera Loving v. Virginia; the resolution directing that the degree be presented at the Library’s Virginia Literary Awards Celebration on Sept. 20, 2025 was recorded as an addendum to the minutes.
The board also adopted a commending resolution honoring former Chair C. Paul Brockwell Jr. for his service; the full resolution text was included in the meeting addendum.
