Library of Virginia funding requests not included in governor’s proposal; agency received $1.7M in carry-forward funds

At the Jan. 12 Library of Virginia Board meeting, Chief Operating Officer Daniel Hinderliter reported that the agency submitted three requests to the governor: additional information-technology staffing after an external risk review, compensation adjustments for library specialists, and a $2.2 million proposal to use artificial intelligence to process government records. Hinderliter said none of those requests were included in the governor’s proposal.
Hinderliter told the board that LVA did receive $1.7 million in carry-forward one-time funds to support security upgrades, staffing initiatives and conservation work tied to the VA250 observance. He also reported that federal funding for the agency remains stable.
Board members did not take formal action on new appropriations at the meeting. The funding update frames follow-up work for staff and informs planning ahead of the General Assembly and executive-branch budget decisions.
