Cameron County awards $300,000 recreation center contract, approves multiple grants and resolutions

The Cameron County Commissioners voted Jan. 8 to award a $300,000 contract for renovations to the Cameron County Recreation Center and approved a series of grants and resolutions intended to fund public services and infrastructure.
Cliff Clark, the county’s Economic and Community Development Director, recommended awarding the recreation center contract to Moyer Building and Remodeling. Commissioners discussed a change order and a time‑sensitive grant deadline, and Commissioner Moate moved to approve the contract with Commissioner Zucal seconding; the motion passed with all commissioners voting in favor.
The board also adopted Fair Housing Resolution No. 2026‑1 after Clark presented the resolution, and approved a grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to operate a Single County Authority (SCA) for regional drug and alcohol services; Commissioner Herzing made the motion to approve the SCA agreement, with Commissioner Zucal seconding. The board approved the 2026 911 Statewide Interconnectivity grant agreement to run Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026.
Several ACT 13 infrastructure requests cleared the board: Lumber Township received approval for up to $28,000 pending final receipt of completed work on the truck in question (motion by Commissioner Moate; second by Commissioner Zucal); Portage Township’s $10,000 request was approved (motion by Commissioner Zucal; second by Commissioner Moate); and the Cameron County Office of Community and Economic Development received $4,500 for Wild Elk Gravel mapping following an explanation from Commissioner Zucal.
The commissioners approved a Tax Anticipation Note resolution (No. 2026‑2) to address short‑term cash flow needs. In each recorded motion the board proceeded by motion and second and recorded the outcome as unanimously approved.
The actions will allow the county to begin renovation work, continue regional substance‑use services under the SCA framework, invest in 911 interoperability, and distribute ACT 13 funds to local road and recreation projects. The board tabled action on bids for the courthouse security entrance to allow further review by the county engineer and safety committee. The next regular commissioners meeting is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2026.
