City staff and council members announced new funding that the city said will support local infrastructure and homeowner assistance.
In the city manager’s report, staff said the city secured $1,200,000 in state and federal funding for the Veterans Memorial stormwater-quality retrofit project. The phase described will add ponds and control structures at Southeast Veterans Memorial Park intended to capture runoff before it reaches the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. The city thanked the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Congressman Brian Mast for supporting the award.
Separately, a council member announced Port St. Lucie received $1,700,000 through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership. The Homeowner Repair and Rehabilitation program will open a pre-application list on Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. for the first 100 applicants; eligible residents may receive up to $50,000 via a 0% deferred-payment loan for critical home repairs. The councilor urged interested homeowners to apply when registration opens.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with project planning and required permitting for the stormwater retrofit; the housing program will accept pre-applications beginning Feb. 18 per the announcement.
