Bridge City ISD board approves 2026–27 calendar, financial reports and cancels May trustee election

The Bridge City Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Feb. 25 to approve its consent agenda, including financial reports and the 2026–27 instructional calendar, and to cancel the May 2 trustee election after candidates for Place 6 and Place 7 were certified as unopposed.
President Rebecca Rutledge presented the consent items. Paul Zoch moved to approve the consent agenda and Mike Johnson seconded; the motion passed with Rutledge, Cole, Zoch, Hill, Anderson, Johnson and Mclnnis voting in favor and no opposing votes.
The consent agenda included the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2026 meeting, the tax collection report, cash investment and financial reports, paid invoices, budget amendments, utilities and surplus declarations. The board separately approved the proposed 2026–2027 instructional calendar in a unanimous vote.
Trustees also approved Library Material Acquisitions presented as compliant with Senate Bill 13; that motion was made by Thad Hill and seconded by Paul Zoch and passed unanimously. The board accepted Certifications of Unopposed Candidates for Places 6 and 7 and approved an Order of Cancellation for the May 2, 2026, BCISD Trustee Election because both candidates were unopposed.
During informational items earlier in the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Mike Kelly updated the board on middle school construction, the district announced a $200 anonymous donation to Bridge City Elementary for Teacher Appreciation Week, and the 2026 Campus Open House schedule was shared. No action was required on those informational items.
The board moved to a closed executive session later in the evening and returned to take personnel actions before adjourning at 8:32 p.m.
