The Midway City Parks, Trails & Trees Committee on Feb. 24 recommended $45,000 for the 2026–27 parks, trails and trees line in the city budget, based on the City Engineer’s recommendation. Committee members said the amount is consistent with recent years’ allocations.
Nancy O’Toole said she will apply for a Recreation Restoration Infrastructure Grant to match the recommended funds, a step committee members said could boost the total available for park and trail projects. Katie Villani, Midway’s city planner, said the funds are not specified in the draft budget but are usually earmarked following direction from City Engineer Wes Johnson in coordination with Public Works and the mayor and council.
Mayor Craig Simons said some of the recommended funds will likely be used for maintenance of the Homestead trails. Committee members discussed potential maintenance and capital uses tied to the recommendation and noted that matching grant success would expand options.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council as part of the larger budget process; committee members said they will continue coordinating on priorities and potential grant applications ahead of council consideration.
