Beaumont — The Beaumont ISD board on June 24 voted to approve the district's Bluebonnet math transition plan for elementary campuses and authorized purchases and contracts supported by LASSO grant funds.
Curriculum director Miss Angelo and elementary math coordinator Danielle Guidry presented the Bluebonnet program, pilot findings, teacher materials and a transition plan that includes printed and digital teacher editions, student workbooks, manipulatives, assessments and ongoing professional learning. Pilot feedback from teachers highlighted strong fluency activities and concept-development training needs.
Funding and contracts: Staff said the district applied for and received LASSO grant funds to support the rollout. An initial award of $500,000 and an additional $744,000 announced the night of the meeting bring the total LASSO support to about $1.244 million for Bluebonnet implementation and approved-provider coaching. The board approved state-grant-funded contracts with Great Minds (provider support) and a Carnegie/Bluebonnet transition allocation as part of purchases and grant-administration items.
Why it matters: The Bluebonnet adoption addresses elementary math declines reported in district assessments; the program pairs a scripted curriculum with digital supports (e.g., Zearn) and teacher coaching intended to accelerate math skill development.
